VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION & INFORMATION

Volunteers are at the heart of the Eversource Hartford Marathon – it takes more than 2,000 volunteers to support race week activities! There are over 100 different volunteer activities offered on different days, times and locations during race week to support the Eversource Hartford Marathon. HMF welcomes individuals and groups to join the effort and reap the great rewards of dedicating time and efforts to help others.

VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION

Note: To help you navigate the many Volunteer opportunities offered, Eversource Hartford Marathon activities have been subdivided into four different events:

  • HMF Packet Pick-up Expo – activities listed in chronological order
  • Bushnell Park Activities – activities listed in alphabetical order
  • Course Activities – Course Monitor activities listed by town alphabetically
  • Water Stations – Water Stations listed by town alphabetically

VOLUNTEER INFORMATION

PRE-RACE: HMF PACKET PICK-UP EXPO – INSIDE THE XL CENTER, HARTFORD
Runners will come to the HMF Packet Pick-up Expo to pick up their race bibs and shirts and enjoy the shopping opportunities and sponsor showcases.
Dates: Thursday, October 17 and Friday, October 18
Volunteer Activities available:

  • Registration – Use a laptop to check in runners and distribute race bibs
  • Shirt Distribution – Hand out race shirts to runners
  • Info Booth – Answer race questions from runners. All info/maps will be provided to answer inquiries.
  • Merchandise – Set up Expo store, assist customers, finalize transactions and restock supplies
  • Bushnell Park Setup – Assist outside with physical event setup in Bushnell Park

RACE DAY: EVERSOURCE HARTFORD MARATHON – BUSHNELL PARK ACTIVITIES, HARTFORD
Bushnell Park with its many athlete support services is adjacent to the Start and Finish Lines and at the heart of the Eversource Hartford Marathon.
Date: Saturday, October 19 (shifts are available early morning, late morning and afternoon)
Volunteer Activities available:

  • Baggage Check – Inside the Bushnell Theater collect athlete bags, organize them numerically and return them to runners upon request.
  • Beer Tent – Hand out post-race beverages.
  • Food Tent – Hand out post-race food and beverages.
  • Finish Line – Hand out medals and water to race finishers.
  • Info Booth – Answer race questions from runners. All info/maps will be provided to answer inquiries.
  • Merchandise – Set up Expo store, assist customers, finalize transactions and restock supplies.
  • Start Line – Setup race corrals and direct runners in Start Area.

RACE DAY: EVERSOURCE HARTFORD MARATHON – COURSE ACTIVITIES
The Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K races travel through several towns. Course Monitor Volunteers are needed throughout these courses to direct and cheer the runners. On race day Volunteers report directly to a location near their selected Course Monitor area.
Date: Saturday, October 19 (shifts are available both morning and afternoon)
Volunteer Activities available:

  • Course Monitors – Direct and cheer runners on the race course
  • Cyclist – On bicycle lead, sweep or sag (follow) runners on race route.

RACE DAY: EVERSOURCE HARTFORD MARATHON – WATER STATIONS
There are over 18 Water Stations along the race routes in several towns.
Date: Saturday, October 19 – RACE DAY

Volunteer groups of 15-35 people from a single entity (business, charity, collegiate group, middle school/high school group, etc.) support a designated Water Station. Smaller groups and individuals are welcome to assist larger groups. Contact Nancy Loughlin, Volunteer Manager (nancy@hartfordmarathon.com) to get your group involved.

Volunteer Activity: All equipment and supplies are dropped at the Water Station before your arrival. Your group will receive detailed instructions and have on-course support as needed. Volunteers will set up equipment, fill water and energy drink cups, distribute drinks to runners and clean up area. On race morning volunteers report directly to their Water Station.

VOLUNTEER PERKS

  • Eversource Hartford Marathon Race Day volunteers will receive an event vest
  • HMF Packet Pick-up Expo volunteers will receive a volunteer t-shirt
  • All volunteers will be fed a meal during/after their shift
  • Earn $$ towards future HMF races or merchandise through HMF Volunteer Rewards
  • Earn community service hours through HMF
  • Pride and satisfaction for being part of a healthy community event which benefits local businesses and non-profit, charitable organizations.

GROUP VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Each year a variety of groups get involved and volunteer at the Eversource Hartford Marathon. Engage your organization, company, school, group, team, or club in the community by volunteering as a group!
